We are pleased to announce that the construction of the new JROTC Air Rifle Range at B.C. Rain High School is well underway. The former range was removed to make room for the recently completed Aviation Training building on campus. Rain High School's JROTC Rifle Team was once held in high regard at state and national level competitions. However, over the past few years, they have been unable to practice due to the lack of an adequate facility. According to Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Donald Brady, the Senior Army Instructor at Rain High School, "The cadets are very excited about starting up a rifle team beginning next school year...we hope to be competing at the state and national levels within the next two years and maintain the Red Raider tradition of excellence when it comes to rifle marksmanship." For those that do not know, air rifle marksmanship, shooting a .177 caliber pellet, is an Olympic Sport. Teams throughout the Mobile County Public School System compete annually against each other and across the State of Alabama.
