Microsoft IT Academy Training

Teachers from the Business, Management, and Administration program attended training to begin teaching the Microsoft IT Academy program in their schools. The new course is to start in January. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to take Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams and will be ready to enter the job market with highly sought after skills.

MCPSS CTE Student Organizations Well Represented at the 2013 Joint Leadership Development Conference

Mobile County’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers and students packed the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center on September 23-24, 2013 for the state’s annual Joint Leadership Development Conference (JLDC). The conference is sponsored by the Alabama Department of Education and is the premier leadership event for career and technical education students in the State of Alabama.

JLDC brings together more than 5,000 students from across the state. CTE students are preparing to make Alabama the leading state for education, work, family, fun, community and great living. As part of the Career and Technical Education curriculum, the student leadership organizations FBLA, FFA, DECA, HOSA, Skills USA, FCCLA, and JROTC offer a co-curricular learning environment where students can bring the classroom to life by implementing the lessons learned in the classroom.

American Welding Society Teacher of the Year

Tim Devargas, welding instructor at Faulkner Career Tech Center was named as the Mobile Sector Educator of the Year by the Mobile Sector of the American Welding Society. Mr. Devargas was recognized at the sector meeting on September 12th at the Original Oyster House. He was accompanied by former and current students who are members of the American Welding Society. JROTC Promotion Ceremony

Congratulations to the top five JROTC Cadets recently selected to represent the Brigade Staff for the Mobile County Public School System. There are a total of twelve JROTC programs in the school district, one Navy unit and eleven Army units. This year marks the first time that the Navy program was represented on the county-wide brigade staff. Each of the twelve high schools competed for these prestigious positions. The promotion ceremony took place on Friday, September 6, 2013. The winners are in order:

Citronelle Automotive Tech Students

Students from Citronelle’s Automotive Tech class engaged in drivability diagnostics on a Citronelle City fire truck. The city has its own full time mechanic but has given the Automotive Tech students the opportunity to diagnose the problems and make repairs. The Auto Tech program at Citronelle works on a variety of city vehicles as part of the live work program.
