Murphy JROTC Places at Greenville Drill Meet

Congratulations are in order again for Murphy HS JROTC Program….

Murphy’s JROTC competed against 12 other schools in the Greenville, Alabama Drill Meet October 16th.  Male and Female drill teams led by Starann Foster, Aaron Woodard, and Josh Sneed won 4 1st to 4th place trophies in inspection, armed, unarmed and armed exhibition drills.  Color guards led by Tarial Malone and Josh Sneed won 1st and 2nd place respectively.  Tarial Malone won 4th place in individual drill.

Bryant CTC Health Science Students Participate in Dodge Career Carnival

Health Science students from Bryant Career Technical Center participated in the Dodge Elementary Career Carnival on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. The career fair was a great opportunity for the pre-medical students to present knowledge and demonstrate hands-on skills learned as part of the program. The elementary students listened attentively and asked questions as the high school students shared their learning experiences and their future post-secondary goals. This was the second year that the Health Science students were invited to participate in the event. Mrs. Courtney Taylor R.N., is the teacher.

Microsoft IT Academy Training

Teachers from the Business, Management, and Administration program attended training to begin teaching the Microsoft IT Academy program in their schools. The new course is to start in January. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to take Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams and will be ready to enter the job market with highly sought after skills.

MCPSS CTE Student Organizations Well Represented at the 2013 Joint Leadership Development Conference

Mobile County’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers and students packed the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center on September 23-24, 2013 for the state’s annual Joint Leadership Development Conference (JLDC). The conference is sponsored by the Alabama Department of Education and is the premier leadership event for career and technical education students in the State of Alabama.

JLDC brings together more than 5,000 students from across the state. CTE students are preparing to make Alabama the leading state for education, work, family, fun, community and great living. As part of the Career and Technical Education curriculum, the student leadership organizations FBLA, FFA, DECA, HOSA, Skills USA, FCCLA, and JROTC offer a co-curricular learning environment where students can bring the classroom to life by implementing the lessons learned in the classroom.

American Welding Society Teacher of the Year

Tim Devargas, welding instructor at Faulkner Career Tech Center was named as the Mobile Sector Educator of the Year by the Mobile Sector of the American Welding Society. Mr. Devargas was recognized at the sector meeting on September 12th at the Original Oyster House. He was accompanied by former and current students who are members of the American Welding Society.
