On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, senior HCAP internship students assisted local physician, Dr. Daniel Spriggs, M.D. with athletic and auxiliary fall physical exams in the HCAP Lab. Because of what they have learned in the program, the students were able to assist Dr. Spriggs with a variety of pre-physical assessments to include blood pressure, height/weight, and vision screening.
The HCAP program provides the students with an academic pipe-line to the health care field through a variety of hands-on classroom, lab, and clinical internships at various medical facilities.
As part of the HCAP curriculum, students enrolled in the program also participate in the University of South Alabama’s S.T.A.R.S. (Student Training for Academic Reinforcement in the Sciences) and S.T.R.I.P.E.S. (Special Training to Raise Interest and Prepare for Entry into the Sciences) programs to improve their knowledge and academic development, reinforce their scientific and mathematical knowledge base, and ultimately prepare them for post-secondary entry into a health care field.
