Free iPad for Clark Shaw Magnet

Students who attended the Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo were encouraged to complete an online survey when they returned to school. Nearly 100% of the students at Clark Shaw Magnet School completed the survey under the guidance of Jane Dailey and Nicole White. The school was awarded an iPad in recognition of their devotion to the project.

Davidson High School Winner!

Alabama Aspirations in Computing (AIC) competition, sponsored by the National Council on Women in Technology (NCWIT) had 2,300 applicants this year from across the U.S.  Of those, 75 applicants were from Alabama which represents a significant increase of girls applying from our region than from the previous year. Davidson High School student, Allison Nelson competed in this year's competition and came out a winner!

Teachers Prepare for Microsoft IT Academy

Microsoft IT Academy teachers from each high school in the district met for professional development training at Murphy High School on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Linda Robinson at Murphy had the first Microsoft IT Academy in Mobile County last school year and worked with teachers from the other 11 schools to prepare for implementation of the program in January.

Students taking the Advanced Business Technology Applications course will use the Microsoft IT Academy program to prepare for Microsoft Office Specialists exams. Students passing those exams can gain industry recognized crendentials in one or more of the following areas:  Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, or Outlook.

Multimedia Students Compete

The Alabama Farmers Cooperative sponsored the 2013 Farm-City State Multimedia Contest. The theme for this year's Multimedia contest was "Alabama Agriculture: Growing for You and Me." Entries were open to ninth- through 12-graders, with cash prizes awarded to state winners with a matching award to the student's school. The presentation must be in PowerPoint or Keynote and relate to the theme.

This year, Bryant High School Multimedia students competed in the Multimedia Design Contest. This year's school winners are pictured below:  Left:  1st Place Tadasha McCorvey; Middle:  Teacher-Kim Hatchett; Right:  2nd Place Maria Beech. Congratulations!

Thanks to Ms. Hatchett for encouraging her Business, Management, and Administration students to compete in an inter-disciplinary competition!

Ag Mechanics Students Gain Dual Enrollment

The Ag Mechanics Class at the Bryant Career Technical Center has eight high school students who are participating in a Bishop State dual-enrollment Diesel Mechanics class this semester.  The students attend classes on Monday and Tuesday nights.

This semester students completed two major projects. The repair and refurbish of a John Deere 650 Diesel Tractor and the Top End overhaul of an 855 Cummins in a Freightliner truck. The truck will be returned back into the Bishop State fleet for the truck driving class.

Many of these students have had great success in gaining employment at local businesses throughout Mobile, such as:  The Caterpillar, Saunders Engines, John Deere, Cowin Equipment, Test and Calibrations and Wilson Dismukes, just to name a few.
